A couple of weeks ago, I announced the makeover of the Breaking series and the why behind it.
Today, I’m here to finally show you the gorgeous new covers:
(Previously titled BREAKING THE REINS)
Genre: NA contemporary romance

Word Count: 110,000
Release date: August/2013
Cover: Najla Qamber Designs
Horses, mansions, tea parties, and lies are twenty-year-old Hannah Taylor’s life. To others, her family and her relationship with Eric is perfect. But she knows the truth. She lives it.
After a fire takes her grandma’s life and kills her horse, Hannah’s immaculate life spirals out of control. Her father disapproves of her decision to run her grandma’s ranch instead of focusing solely on learning the family business; Animal Control brings her Argus, a mistreated horse that she can’t turn away even though she’s not ready for another horse; and her boyfriend, Eric Bennett, a world famous polo player, becomes possessive and authoritarian. Despite her best efforts to disguise it, Hannah grows wary of him.
Then, Leonardo Fernandes struts onto the polo scene. A cocky rookie with a messy life of his own, he’s drawn to Hannah and isn’t afraid of showing it, even when Eric makes it clear she is his and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Hannah suffers for Eric’s jealousy. The abuse only gets worse when Leo steals the title of best polo player in the world from Eric.
But the title isn’t enough for Leo. He wants Hannah too, and she can’t deny her attraction to him either. Somehow, she must find a way to break free from abusive Eric before he breaks every bone in her body.

(Previously titled BREAKING FENCES)
Genre: NA contemporary romance
Warning: strong language, bullying, sex scenes
Word Count: 95,000
Release date: June/2014
Cover: Najla Qamber Designs
All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.
College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding. But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don’t hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn’t be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.
However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn’t have to mean standing alone.

From the outside, Hilary Taylor has it all—beauty, money, a caring family, good friends—but inside she’s struggling, full of fears. Events from the past forever changed her, and though years of therapy have helped, she still has a long way to go…. No matter how much progress she’s made, Hil isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to trust men again. Especially one who sees her as nothing more than a pretty face. But Hil knows it’s time to face her fears, and the best way to do that is to start small.
To Guilherme Fernandes life is about three things: polo, parties and pretty girls—only one of which he takes seriously. Gui is too focused on his polo career to waste time on relationships, however he can’t help but be intrigued by the beautiful yet troubled Hil. So when she decides she’d like to learn more about horses, Gui is happy to find himself in the right place at the right time. But what was supposed to be a one time thing, soon turns into a weekly date.
As Gui helps her discover a new found love for horses, Hil’s guard begins to crumble. The more support Gui offers, the more she wants to accept…and the more the lines of friendship blur. Despite knowing better, Hil can’t help it as Gui slowly breaks through the walls she’s built. Now she has to decide if she’ll stop him there, or if she’ll finally let her fear go and allow Gui to reach for her heart.

As I mentioned before, the old covers will always have a special place in my heart, but I absolutely love the new covers. What do you think?
Cheers,
Hi friends,
Changing the Breaking Series wasn’t an easy decision. I thought about it for months. But in the end, I guess it’s hard not to change it, and here is why:
I love, love, love the current covers of Breaking the Reins and Breaking Fences, but unfortunately they are are sending the wrong message to the readers. The Breaking Series as it is attracts more horse-book readers, and even though there are horses and ranches in the books, I still think the books are more New Adult Romances than anything else. Nothing wrong with horse-books readers – gosh, thank goodness they have been reading my books – but it’s not the intended market. So, I researched New Adult Romances covers (as if I needed) and guess what? Most of them have kissing couples or shirtless guys on the cover! What a shocker ;)
Everyone I talked to about changing covers and the reason why, agreed with me. So I contacted the wonderful Naj, who designed the cover of Captured Love, and she worked on the new covers.
However, I realized just changing the covers wasn’t enough. The titles didn’t go well with the new pics we chose. Can you imagine Breaking the Reins or Breaking Fences written across kissing couples? It doesn’t make much sense now, does it? So I ended up changing titles too.
Breaking the Reins is now called Breaking Free.
Breaking Fences is now called Breaking Away.
And book #3, which didn’t have a title until now, is called Breaking Through.
Of course, Naj did a great job. The new covers are beautiful! Can’t wait to show you! Which brings me to the next thing: I contacted Giselle from Xpresso Book Tours and she’s organizing a big cover re-reveal for the old books and a cover reveal for the new book (all together in one post) for Dec 19th. If you want to help me spread the word about the new covers and titles, you can sign up here.
I know it’s a little confusing for now, but it’ll clear up with time :)
Cheers,
Since becoming a writer and author, I’ve turned in to a worrying machine. Seriously, I said this before in other pasts, but I used to be so decided, so sure of everything, then it all changed when I dove deep into writing. Now, I’m so undecided and not sure of anything. I change my mind about my books, my path, my writing, my methods, etc, a thousand times – per day!
And that means I’m undecided about my books’ prices too.
I’ve always knew I would charge $2.99 for Destiny Gift and then, when the second one was out, change it to $0.99. The second one (Soul Oath) and the third one (The Everlasting Circle) will cost $2.99 each, though, and the novella (Cup of Life, #2.5) will cost $0.99.
However, since book #2 (Soul Oath) is almost here, I changed Destiny Gift to it’s new price a little early.
So, here’s where you can buy DESTINY GIFT for only $0.99:
Amazon | Barnes&Noble | Kobo | Apple
Soon, Soul Oath will be on sale on the same outlets!
When I published Breaking the Reins (in August), $3.99 was the new $2.99. It seemed that all new, quality self-pubbed books (especially NA contemp romance) was being published for $3.99. I wondered about that a bit and I researched.
Most authors use a length system for their prices, like:
Novelette (up to 15k words) = $0.99
Novella (15k-40k words) = $1.99
Novels (40k-80k) = $2.99
Long novels (over 80k) = $3.99
And there are many authors who actually charge more for their novels ($4.99), no matter the length.
So, since Breaking the Reins is 110,000 words long and it cost a lot more than the others to produce and a lot more time to write, I ended up charging $3.99 for it. Then, talking to my hubs about pricing this past week, I realized readers don’t really care about length. They care if it’s a novella or novel, and a novel can be 50k words or 150k words – and the price should be the same.
For that, I just changed Breaking the Reins price to $2.99.
I see authors playing with prices all the time. I don’t want to do that because I don’t want to look like I’m toying with my readers – they are too precious to me to play around with. But, one good thing about being indie is that I’m in charge and I can change things a bit.
So, these new prices are for you!
Cheers,
