My friend Jaime Morrow came up with the WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY meme about a month ago. Here’s her explanation about it: “It’s similar in some respects to the Currently… post, but it’s been whittled down to only four headings to make it quicker and more manageable on a weekly basis. You’re invited to join us if you’re looking for something to blog about, a way to let your blog friends know what’s been going on with you.”
I’ve been wanting to participate in it since then, but I don’t always feel like blogging, even with a detailed post outline. So, I don’t promise I’ll post every Wednesday, but I’ll try.
WHAT I’M READING
I’ve been reading a lot of NA lately (duh) and a bunch of contemporary too.
I just finished In the Air by Crystal Serowka. Being a former ballerina, anything with ballet in it catches my attention. The story was quite nice, but I think it lacked a bigger conflict during the climax. Other than that, I enjoyed the characters and the writing was clean and flowed nicely.
Tonight, I’ll start on the ARC of Eyre House by Cait Greer :)
WHAT I’M WRITING
I’m on the last stretch of Breaking the Reins. I should finish it with another 6-8k words, and that means it should be done by Friday, I hope.
Then, I plan on starting the second book on The Everlast Trilogy, which is still untitled. I hope that by the next What’s Up Wednesday post, I’ll tell you that I’m deep in plotting (or actually, revising and reworking the plot).
There are so many ideas in my head. I bet all writers/authors suffer of this “sickness” … but it’s good. Though I feel overwhelmed and feel like I have to write 10k words per day to be able to write ALL of my ideas (and it wouldn’t be enough), it’s better to have tons of ideas than none, in my opinion. However, it’s hard choosing one to focus on. I mean, my time is practically full until end of Aug/mid Sept writing and revising Everlast #2, but still, I can’t stop planning what I’ll write next … and that’s a huge fight between rewriting my Ancient Egypt story or my Gypsies story. Oh, and I have a couple of contemporary ideas too …
Ugh! Too much to write, too little time …
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
The same things as always. Music.
I’m in love with all songs played on the TV series Beauty and the Beast. Two of them have been on repeat for quite some time around here: Sugar by Wanderhouse, and Nitesky by Robot Koch featuring John LaMonica.
WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO
– My daughter’s school is still going strong. Her classes end on June 24th. Until then, I have only mornings to write, and, I don’t know, for being the beginning of the day, I spent a lot of time checking my emails and going over feedly, saying hi and morning to everyone on twitter … which takes away from my writing time. But that’s totally my fault, of course.
– I’m getting ready to spend Saturday at BEA! Can’t wait to meet so many writers and readers and bloggers! So exciting!
– I’m finally back with my exercise routine. Six times a week. Or seven, when I can. Though, I need to cut back on eating too much chocolate and bread and cake. Yum, it’s so hard. Oh, another hard thing? To say no to my dear glass of wine during dinner. Yeah, have been able to stay away from it … so far.
– We “inaugurated” the new house by having some friends over during the weekend. We had a great time :)
Now tell me, WHAT’S UP WITH YOU THIS WEEK?
Don’t forget to stop by Jaime’s post and check out the linky of the awesome writers who are participating of this meme!
Cheers,
Jaime Morrow
So happy you joined us this week, Juliana! :) I know what you mean about having so many story ideas floating around in your head at any given time. It’s great because you’ll always have something to work with, but frustrating because you can’t get to all of them when you want to. (Especially when something like revisions keeps you glued to the same story forever and a day.) But, I suppose too many ideas is infinitely better than too few, right? I’m so envious of all of you BEA folks. I would love to attend one year. Have tons of fun!
Katy Upperman
I’m just a *little* envious of your trip to BEA… Have so much fun! And way to go on your exercise routine. I workout so I can eat chocolate and treats, so I think it’s cool for you to indulge, too. I’m nothing if not an enabler. :-)
Alex J. Cavanaugh
Book Expo – have fun! While you’re gone, can I have some of your extra ideas?
Alison Miller
I am SO jealous of your upcoming BEA trip! I am going to try to go to ALA in January. Have fun!
And I know what you mean about all the ideas in the brain and feeling like you’ve got to write fast and furiously so you can write all of them. I just keep my handy-dandy notebook, uh…handy and jot notes all the time. :)
Elodie
As mentioned in one of my previous comments, can´t wait to hear all about your adventures at BEA :D
Good luck with your writing, I´m always amazed at your productivity! And YAY for your new house and the housewarming party :D
Melissa Hurst
I’m so jealous! You get to go to BEA, and your daughter is still in school! lol My kids got out last Friday, and I’m pulling out my hair already. ;)
Miss Cole
You are so busy! WOW! I don’t think I have anything to complain about ^^; Good luck hitting your Friday target! :D
Rebecca Barrow
“Ugh! Too much to write, too little time …”<–totally know how that feels, and you write waaaaay faster than me! Also totally jealous of your day at BEA, I bet it's going to be a blast hanging out with everyone there. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do that one day, too :)
EM Castellan
What am I doing this week? Well, reading DESTINY GIFT of course! And I’m jealous for BEA, I’d love to go one day! Hope you have a great writing week :)
Erin Funk
Hi, Juliana! Nice to finally meet you, and I’m so glad you joined our blog hop this week! I know what you mean about having too many ideas. It really is hard to focus on just one story sometimes. Good luck with the writing, and I hope you have a great time at BEA!
Katharine Owens
Too much to write, too little time. Agreed! Sounds like you’re being super productive and knocking a lot of writing out– that’s a great thing. :0)
Colin
So many ideas, so little time. *sigh*. I know it well, Juliana! And the same goes with reading. But it *is* better to have too many ideas than none. And it’s much better to have too much to do than be bored and waste your life doing nothing.
All the best with the writing projects! :)
Ghenet Myrthil
Good luck with all of your writing projects! That’s so great you have so many ideas. I have a lot of concepts swimming in my head but I still need to develop them. I’m excited to start writing something new this summer. :)
Have fun at BEA on Saturday! I’ll be there this afternoon and tomorrow. Should be fun!
Erin L. Schneider
Oh, you’re so in the home stretch on your writing! I’m in the same boat right now and hope to be finished with my first draft, this weekend.
And to have all those writing ideas is awesome!!! Even if you don’t have the time right now, write them all down…because you never know when you will find yourself with a spare hour or two later. It’s always a good thing to have so many ideas than none at all – I so agree!
And BEA? Totally jealous. I hope you have a blast and can’t wait to see all the goodness you score!
Great job on getting back into exercising – I know exactly how that can be, but man, does it feel so good to be back! Keep at it! And congrats on the new house, too. :)
