Road Trip Wednesday is a “Blog Carnival,” where YA Highway’s contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.
This week’s topic:
Describe your dream writing retreat. Where would you go? Who and what would you bring?
At this moment, I’m on my chair and desk, with my laptop hooked up on a larger screen (because I like BIG screens lol), on a corner of the living room. I tried distancing myself and having my own office room, but this way I can still be with my daughter when she is watching a movie and with my hubby when he is playing video-games.
Not an ideal place to write, but it’s working so far.
First, my dream place to visit would not be my dream writing retreat.
This is my dream place to visit:
A little hard to sit down on the sand and write under the hot sun the Egyptian desert, don’t you think?
Alright, then I would choose this place as my writing retreat:
Maldives
The perfect Paradise.
I confess I’m not a sand-and-beach kinda of gal, though I love the ocean. Instead of laying in the sand and sun-bathing, I’m the girl who never gets out of the water ;)
There are many resorts over the crystal-like ocean in Maldives.
Nice, uh?
And I could write on isolated places like this one:
Perfect!
I would bring my laptop and my notebooks and pencils (sometimes I just need to brainstorm on paper), chocolate and wine, and maybe some seafood at times (love seafood!), and I would invite my family to come with me on one condition: if I was allowed to have a few hours each day for myself, alone, to write ;)
I bet these resorts cost a fortune though, so I’m better off on my little corner lol
Your turn. Tell me about your perfect writing retreat? Or dream vacation?
Cheers,
Tarah Dunn
Great minds think alike! Though I differ on one thing–I know I’d never get any work done with my family around. I find it hard enough to write with my child in the house (some sort of residual constant alertness left over from the infant stage, I think), so tropical paradise + child would=no writing!

Oooo. Beautiful pics. Love this.
Athena Franco
That looks picture perfect! Sadly, I’d get -zero- writing done there; I’d be too busy getting a tan!

Looks gorgeous! I wouldn’t be out of that sea either. Everything would take my breath away.

I agree with you about having the family around. If I were to get away to another location, whether for a vacation or a retreat, I would hate to go without my wife and kids. Not only do I enjoy spending time with them, but it would seem kind of mean to leave them out of the fun.

I want to go to Maldives too. Can I come?
This has been a very fun RTW.

So, so pretty! I could write there too pretty easily. Great choice :)

Would love to visit Egypt as well :-)
I do have my little corner on the couch too where I can still be in the room when hubby plays PS3…
The Maldives look like wow, what a nice place to write and have fun!

Prettyyy! I’ve never been a sun and sand person myself, but water definitely does have a calming effect that would be conducive to lots of writing. I just don’t think I could do any swimming in a place that gorgeous–tropical fish totally gross me out, lol.

You’re right, all that sand would just get into your laptop.
I’d like a cabin in the mountains, surrounded by several feet of snow. Then I’d feel no guilt that I couldn’t leave.

My DREAM is to visit Egypt. Of course, after my parents were trapped there during the riots my husband has put his foot down. :) I LOVE your dream place to write. I’m not a beach but an ocean gal, too. I grew up in Florida and practically lived on a dive boat during the weekends.

Great pictures and location–soothing and inspiring all at once. The closest I’ve been to that kind of view is Kauai, which was gorgeous. And I love to swim, but not in a rough ocean (was pulled into a riptide as a kid and I can’t even watch movies like Blue Crush)–this one looks nice and smooth.

Ooh! The pictures are so pretty and the water is so blue and clear. Hmmm….maybe I want a wonderful blue lagoon instead of a rose covered cottage.
Alexis Bass
Oh wow. I would love to write there. That beach! Makes me think it’s time for another vacation…

Since I was a kid Egypt has been on the top of my dream vacation list. I love the history and being able to stand in the middle of it would be absolutely amazing. And those pictures of the huts, gorgeous. I want to jump into the screen and become part of the picture! And chocolate and wine are a must! I like the way you think :)

O.M.G can you say heavenly! I am a total beach and water bum so it might be hard for me to stay out of the sun to get some writing done. LOL!
I’d say though, that would be my paradise to visit just for vacation. If I wanted a get-away for writing, perhaps an isolated log cabin with spectacular views in the spring or fall so it’s not too cold. A gorgeous sun porch where I could be comfortable to write and dream!!! And hubby to keep the fire stocked and the meals served hot!
Now that would be a taste of writing heaven…
GREAT post!

Ahh beautiful choices! I agree the heat and sun in Egypt may be a little much to handle for writing – but then the Maldives is also a hot place! lol but I guess shade may be easier to come by… Both are places on my list of where I would like to go (My Armchair Traveller post). I may get a little distracted by the wonderful sites though… I’m also not a lazing on the beach gal, but you wouldn’t find me in the ocean much either – I would be the one wandering around with a camera and notebook recording every detail of the place! :D
If I wanted to ‘get away’ to concentrate on my writing (rather than my location) I would probably choose a quiet, quaint, countryside cottage – hopefully with minimal outside distractions to explore and write about :)
