Road Trip Wednesday is a “Blog Carnival,” where YA Highway‘s contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.
This week’s topic:
In honor of the end of the Olympics, share your favorite sports book!
Honestly, I couldn’t remember of any book I read that featured sports. I even went to Goodreads and looked through my lists of books, and found none. I have a couple on my TBR list, like Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally, and I even have the book on my kindle, but didn’t read it yet.
Then I remembered one: the entire Harry Potter series — hello, Quidditch? Yeah!
Hehe, just kidding! (not really).
Well, I did read one recently, where there Hero fights MMA. It is a sport, BUT the book is adult, and very, very hot. It’s called Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell. Other than that, what I have to say about this book is: wow! I loved the characters. It’s told in dual POV, so you get stuck in deep third with the hero and the heroine and I loved their voices, and the guy, for being a fighter, was always talking about the ring, and punching, and throwing the towel as his analogies. It was super fun.
And you? Which sports books did you read and liked?
Cheers,
***
On an unrelated note, have you read my short story at Figment.com? It’s only 4000 words and I would love some feedback! It’s called Into the Darkest Fire and you can read it here.

Okay, that book looks HAWT. I have several favorite sports reads: Swim the Fly, Catching Jordan, Boy Toy (which has a few baseball moments in it). My own projects always include a sports element so I’m drawn to them. :)
Juliana
I know, right?!
Jennifer Hoffine
That’s not my husband’s MMA:) It looks like I could get into that.
Juliana
It’s a nice read ;) hehe

1. I did the exact same thing with my goodreads lists to see if I had anything and I was on the same boat.
2. “Catching Jordan” is on my TBR list, too.
3. I was also thinking about Quidditch when I turned up stumped! There is “Quidditch Through the Ages” which might fit into the category more that just the books, but without a plot, it’s more of a manual. Either way, I think HP should count!
Juliana
LOL great minds think alike ;)
Nickie Anderson
Quidditch totally counts! I think if the sport were real, I would just be a spectator. Seems a little to crazy to actually play…
Juliana
You know there are tournaments of quidditch, right? Real ones. Even World Cup!
Robin Moran
I think you could totally get away with listing Quidditch! People actually play it now. Just wait, in a few more years it’ll be an Olympic sport! How cool would that be to watch?
Juliana
LOL It would be AWESOME to watch it!
Kelley Lynn
Hmmm, I’m about to read Kyra Lennon’s GAME ON. That’s about soccer :) Excited for that!
Juliana
Nice! I have to get to that one too ;)
Colin
Whatever kind of MMA floats your boat, Juliana… *ahem* ;) Seriously, though, I’m with the others–Quidditch totally counts. :)
Juliana
HAHAHA good one, Colin!

I will have to read this book, Juliana, as MMA is my favorite contact sport. My son has trained in wrestling (real wrestling), jujitsu, Muai Thai kickboxing, and boxing. You may see him in the cage later on…. (Ahem, shameless promotion here…my first novel centers on an MMA fighter. My son’s adventures in the sport inspired me.)
After years spent watching, learning, and cheering in MMA and wrestling gymnasiums, how could I not love the sport? I’ve seen him raise his arm in victory, and shed a few tears after a tough loss. The dedication of MMA fighters is amazing.

Hmmm, can you say HOT? :D
CATCHING JORDAN and FORGET YOU would be my favorite sports book :D
